How do you stay focused and get back on track during the tough times?

Recently I'm being asked by a fellow entrepreneur - "How do you stay focused and get back on track during the tough times?"

I pondered, 3 things come into my mind.

Firstly, stay lean and mean, survival comes first.

Chop what is not necessary.

The ability to live cheaply, and continuously feeding the team, especially those who stay with you during the tough time, is critical for rebound.

Secondly, connect with people in, or outside your field, be it successful entrepreneurs, startup founders, or any of your trusted peers, whom you look up to.

Only they can understand what you are going through, don't be shy to seek for their advice and help.

"It's hard enough out there, get all the help you can. Getting help, really, is just a part of a lifelong search for wisdom." Phil Knight, NIKE founder, Stanford Commencement Speech (start at 20:00)

Then take massive action to tackle the problems head-on, one by one.

Make sure things are moving forward.

Thirdly, NEVER, EVER lose your self-esteem and confidence. It is important to stay calm and confident during tough times. We are all human, it is ok to have some self-doubt, for a while, but never lose faith, nor hope.

You need to be able to pick yourself up.
Those are the 3 things that keep me in check.

Don't call it a quit yet, until you exhausted all avenues.

Tough time never last, tough people do, and tough people know their limitation too, they never afraid to ask for help from others.

Remember, a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

When you are about to give up, remember what the late Steve Jobs said:

“I'm convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.... Unless you have a lot of passion about this, you're not going to survive. You're going to give it up. So you've got to have an idea, or a problem or a wrong that you want to right that you're passionate about; otherwise, you're not going to have the perseverance to stick it through.”

Always have faith, the view, in the end, will be all worth it.
